Now that the Detroit Pistons’ season is effectively over, so too is the tenure of Joe Dumars as the team’s president of basketball operations. The team was heavily rumored to be making a move in the front office and that move came today with an official announcement that Joe Dumars would be stepping down and taking a different position with the team.
It’s worth noting that Dumars wasn’t fired, rather relocated within the organization.
UPDATE: The #Pistons announced today that Joe Dumars will step aside as President of Basketball Operations, effective immediately.

Pistons make it official: Dumars "steps aside," becomes some kind of adviser. Search for new GM is on. This is a firing, though, basically.

This is a move that will please fans but it puts pressure on the Pistons to turn this mess around fast. Dumars put together a good roster on paper but his inability to find a head coach was his undoing and the roster never came together as a result.
Dumars’ remaining within the organization isn’t a bad thing but someone else will be running the team when they tip off their 2014-15 campaign to get over the hump.
