The Los Angeles Lakers have missed the postseason and it’s fully expected that heads will roll as a result. But while the team is likely to gut the roster and try to buy their way out of this mess, the situation at head coach needs to be addressed and two names have surfaced as intriguing candidates, should they be considered.

According to NBA scribe Kevin Ding, the Lakers could end up targeting Jeff Van Gundy or his brother Stan Van Gundy to replace Mike D’Antoni as coach.

Per Ding:

"Two names jump out to me, and they have the same last name: Jeff Van Gundy and Stan Van Gundy. Of the unemployed coaches out there, they are two of the very few who have proved themselves to be top-shelf NBA leaders."

Both names are intriguing options but the New York Knicks could be a team that steals one away. But if Steve Kerr is who Phil Jackson covets — and even if he isn’t — one of the Van Gundy brothers could end up as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
