In a move that has grown less and less surprising as the offseason has worn on, the Oakland Raiders are expected to cut quarterback Terrelle Pryor on Monday if they cannot find a trade partner to move him to before then. According to FOXSports.com’s Alex Marvez, if nothing happens over the weekend, some sort of resolution is going to happen on Monday.

This is a move that we’ve seen coming from a mile away and it’s hardly a surprise given the trade market this offseason. Like we saw in the NBA earlier this year, the draft is so deep in the NFL that no one wants to trade draft picks to acquire players they can get better versions of in the draft — and at a fraction of the cost.

Pryor may still have a lot left, but he needs the right environment to grow. That’s not going to happen in Oakland especially when the team is projected to draft a quarterback while already having two on roster. Pryor is a fourth wheel on a car that only has three and once he’s moved elsewhere, whether it be an unlikely trade or an expected release, there is hope he can develop his talents to at least become a viable career backup.
