Now that the Houston Rockets have been eliminated from the postseason and reportedly will be retaining head coach Kevin McHale, they can focus on what they can do to improve the team.

According to their owner, they will be very active and plan on bringing in a top tier free agent.

“We’re going to have cap room to bring in a terrific free agent and I think next year we’ll be a lot better than we were this year,” Rockets’ owner Les Alexander said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports via Marc Berman.

“I think the nucleus is great. I think we have two of the brightest stars in the league. We have players who are going to be much better next year, young guys. We have a very good nucleus.”

The potential free agent most often associated with the Rockets is New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony. Anthony can opt out of the final year of his deal and become a free agent, which most expect him to do.

The Rockets have also been tied to other stars via a potential trade, including Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo and Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love.
