With the 2014 NFL Draft only a couple of days away, the rumor mills are churning overtime. One player who finds himself in the midst of the supposed mix for several teams is former Clemson Tigers wide receiver, Sammy Watkins.

Watkins has been tied (and untied) to the St. Louis Rams as well as a few other teams, but the latest is coming direct from the general manager’s mouth.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said that Watkins “would fit” the team well.

I’m not sure there’s a GM who doesn’t feel that way about Watkins, but it would be a frightening sight indeed for opposing defensive backs to see Calvin Johnson and Watkins lined up on opposite sides of the field.

“He would fit us; he can make plays. His track record speaks for itself, I think.” – Lions GM Martin Mayhew

I’m sure Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford wouldn’t mind either.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Mayhew is very interested in Watkins and has looked at him closely.

"“All the players that are really, really good, I’m enamored with all of those guys. And the ones that aren’t so good, I’m not enamored with.“We like him as a football player, so we did our due diligence on him, as we’ve done on (Jadeveon) Clowney and other guys.”"

The Lions currently hold the tenth pick in the upcoming draft, so chances are they will have to trade up at least a few spots if they want to get Watkins.
