Reds’ Jay Bruce has surgery, Billy Hamilton not in lineup and other news

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce underwent surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee.  He will be out anywhere from three to six weeks.  The Reds called up Roger Bernadina to replace Bruce, although Chris Heisey and Ryan Ludwick will most likely see the bulk of the at-bats vacated by Bruce.

The Reds will also be without speedster Billy Hamilton again today.  Hamilton will miss his fifth straight games after spraining his knuckles diving for a ball against the Brewers on Thursday.  Hamilton is expected to avoid a stint on the disabled list though.

The Reds will roll with Chris Heisey and Ryan Ludwick tonight.  Heisey is worthy of an add for people in need of outfield help.  Ludwick could provide you some cheap power in deep and NL-only leagues.  Other in shallow to moderate leagues should take a wait-and-see approach with Ludwick to see how much he will actually play.

In other news, Los Angeles, Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will be given a day off to see if he can shake an 0-15 slump.  Scott Van Slyke will get the start at first base for the Dodgers.  He is worth adding for those of you that need a first baseman tonight.  Those of you in daily leagues need to switch out AGon if you originally had him in your lineup.

Philadelphia Phillie shortstop Jimmy Rollins is still nursing a sore groin, and will miss tonight’s game as well.  Freddy Galvis will take over at shortstop for the Phils, but you can probably do better.

Twins first baseman Joe Mauer will miss another game with his ailing back tonight.  Chris Colabello will start at first in his stead.

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will miss tonight’s game as well, despite his insistence that he will play.  Expect Andre Ethier to start in his place.

Athletics’ outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will be back in the lineup tonight against the Mariners.  He should be in yours as well!
