UPDATE: Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed on Xbox One and PS4 by about six months. The confirmation came via a blog post on the game’s official website.
"We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks—which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve."
ORIGINAL: Bad news for those wanting to get their hands on The Elder Scrolls Online for console, the game has apparently been delayed on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Reports have surfaced that an update to the official The Elder Scrolls Online FAQ pointed to a delay of the console version of the game. Those reports were verfiried when a Reddit user captured an image of the website with the message that the game’s June launch on consoles wasn’t going to happen.
The FAQ read:
"When does The Elder Scrolls Online officially launch?The Elder Scrolls Online officially launched on April 4, 2014 on PC and Mac. While it has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible, we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six more months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve. For additional information on the delay, please see this blog post (link)."
Given the detail in the update, which has since been removed, it’s likely that this was a legitimate update that just went live too early. There has been no official word from publisher Bethesda on the reported delay, but FanSided has reached out for comment.
