The Dallas Cowboys had the No. 16 overall draft pick and in-state product Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel slid to them and was still available with that pick. Some Cowboys fans prepared themselves for Jones to take Manziel ignoring so many glaring needs for the Cowboys.

Instead the Cowboys drafted Notre Dame offensive lineman Zack Martin. and addressed a need. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said no one was coming in and beating out Tony Romo, and that made the decision easy. Jones did say that he was “surprised” Manziel was available and that it “didn’t bring on a bonanza of offers that would have given us more options.”

“Theres no way any quarterback comes in here and beats out Tony Romo. The fact Martin was there mitigated any…thinking about going with Johnny,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

Of course Manziel thinks the world couldn’t have handled him in a Cowboys uniform.

“I don’t know if the world could’ve handled that, honestly,” Manziel said, via Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports.
