Johnny Manziel is a cocky a–hole in the eyes of some. But that confident Johnny Football facade cracked a little bit behind the scenes at the draft as teams began passing up the chance to take the quarterback.

Just how nervous did Manziel get as he began sliding down the board? Peter King relates this anecdote in Monday’s MMQB:

"Manziel does not like to let people see him sweat. He knew his every move on this night would be scrutinized closely. But the Rams passing on him hurt. Because now he thought he’d be in for a free-fall. He turned to [his agent] Burkhardt, and sort of out of the side of his mouth, said this:“E.B., we’re screwed.”"

Johnny may have thought right there that he was going to drop right out of the first. He didn’t know that Cleveland wanted him bad enough to move up to #22.

He also didn’t know that the Vikings tried to trade up to #22 before Cleveland did.

In the end, Johnny wasn’t screwed. He went to Cleveland.

Wait, maybe he was actually screwed anyway. Maybe that was what he meant when he said “we’re screwed.”

He may have known right then that he was destined for Cleveland. What a horrifying realization that must have been.

No wonder he was drinking so much water. He must’ve felt like he was slowly slipping into hell.
