The NBA Draft is just around the corner and teams are looking at prospects to see just how well they fit with their roster and what they can do to improve things in 2014-15. One way that a prospect can become helpful is to switch positions to better utilize his skills and that could be what ends up happening to Dante Exum.

According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, an NBA executive believes that not only will Exum be drafted near the top of the order but whoever takes him will likely convert him to a shooting guard give his size.

This isn’t really something we’ve heard in the past, and it’s not a rule that all teams will stick by if they draft Exum in the lottery. For instance, the Orlando Magic are unlikely to convert Exum to shooting guard as they already have Victor Oladipo there and won’t be replacing him anytime soon.

But should a team like the 76ers draft him, we could see a shift to shooting guard and that may not be the worst thing ever. Sure, it’s changing the position he’s played his whole like but if Exum can score, having a shooting guard with point guard capabilities just makes a team’s backcourt more fluid and may end up being the right move in the long run.
