After the big offseason trade that saw the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers swap Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler, a lot was made about the reunion series between Texas and Detroit taking place this weekend. Fielder even addressed the issue, coming out and saying, in so many words, that he didn’t care about playing Detroit.

In a bit of irony, Fielder may sort of get his wish, as the All-Star first baseman is going to miss the series entirely because of an injury.

More from Detroit Tigers

Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas says Fielder was supposed to play in Tuesday’s game before being scratched because of arm weakness. And now the former Tiger will not even be making the trip with his Rangers squad to play Detroit.  Instead, he will stay behind and be evaluated by a doctor.

If he just misses the weekend series, or even if a DL stint is on the horizon, this may be a good thing for Fielder and the Rangers. Prince has been struggling at the plate, hitting just .247 with three home runs on the season. Perhaps some time to rest and recover will bring his power stroke back as well.
