Yasiel Puig is mainly known for two things: driving his car too fast and flipping his bat away like a total boss when he hits a home run. Recently, Puig took to the streets of New York with Fat Joe of MLB’s Off the Bat to teach people one of his two main skills.

Since New Yorkers already know how to drive like maniacs, Puig taught them the fine art of the bat flip.

The main thing with the bat flip, as we learn there, is that you need a good reason for doing it. You don’t just go around flipping bats for nothing. You need something to celebrate.

It’s important to always respect the bat flip. Use the bat flip wisely. Also, make sure there’s no one standing behind you. That’s a very important bat flip safety tip. The last thing you want is a lawsuit.

Yeah okay, the bat flip thing is going to get old soon. I’m starting to see Bill Plaschke’s point on some of this. It’s cute at first, but after awhile, there’s a law of diminishing returns that kicks in.

I’m actually sort of looking forward to the day when Puig matures and stops flipping bats. I’ve been Plaschke’d.
