NFL Rumors: Ravens RB Ray Rice likely to face suspension
By Jack Crosby
There’s been a lot of speculation recently as to what may happen to Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice in the wake of the assault charges that he’s facing. Most believe that Rice will be suspended for a period of time this season, and you can now add ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen to that list.
During an episode of NFL Insiders on Thursday, Mortensen expressed that the team is anticipating that they could be without their star running back for a few games this upcoming season because of the incident.
"ESPN’s Chris Mortensen indicated on NFL Insiders Thursday that Ray Rice is likely to face a league-imposed suspension following his assault charge."
Rice was recently admitted into a pre-trial program that could cause the assault charges to be dismissed when all is said and done, but that still doesn’t mean that he’s out of hot water with the league.
They’re still reviewing the entire matter and will then see if a suspension is warranted, which according to Mortensen it is.
The charges against Rice stem from an incident at a hotel casino in Atlantic City where surveillance footage captured Rice dragging his then-fiance from an elevator unconscious.
There’s no word yet on just how long the suspension could last, although most suspect that it could be in the area of two games, at least.
