Otis Smith, Van Gundy’s GM while in Orlando, is considered the favorite for the role, however the front office is now bringing Stu Jackson in for an interview for the role, according to Chris Haynes of Comcast SportsNet.

"Stu Jackson, the NBA’s former executive vice president of basketball operations, will interview for the Detroit Pistons’ vacant general manger post, a league source informed CSNNW.com."

Stu Jackson was named the NBA’s VP of Basketball Operations in 2007 and stepped down last July as Rod Thorn took over. Jackson had previously been the GM for the Grizzlies in the late 90s after years with the New York Knicks and the Wisconsin Badgers.

Jackson’s experience through all aspects of and NBA front office will make him an intriguing candidate going forward.

The Pistons’ will be in dire need of direction under Stan Van Gundy and whomever is hired as GM after 5 straight seasons without a playoff appearance.
