We haven’t even hit the second full day of OTAs around the NFL and already the New York Jets quarterback situation is coming to the forefront; and this time head coach Rex Ryan is offering up his thoughts.

After having newcomer to the team Michael Vick insisting the past few weeks that he’s not here to steal Geno Smith’s job, Ryan offered up a different explanation to the media on Wednesday by stating that there absolutely is a competition between the two.
The Jets drafted Smith early in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft after he had slipped way past the position most experts had him being taken. With injuries to Mark Sanchez, Smith stepped into the starting role and struggled mightily, while at the same time showing some shades of promise.
Despite those shades, though, the team scooped up Vick nearly immediately after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, leading many to believe at the time that he would step into the starting role while Smith could take a step back and work on his game for the future.
It’s been the opposite of that ever since as, again, Vick has said time and time again that this is Geno’s team, a statement that some may have been buying into until Coach Ryan’s comments today.
