The Boston Celtics are selecting 6th overall in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft after falling one spot during the lottery. The top 4 in this year’s draft seems solidified at this stage of draft workouts, leaving the teams right outside trying to find as much value as possible, whether by trade or picking from the prospects expected to be available. The Celtics have a number of needs after a 25-57 season, but the forward options at the 6th pick have dominated their presumed focus as they schedule draft workouts. The Celtics are bringing in one of the top forwards in this year’s draft pool, Noah Vonleh of Indiana, for a workout on June 12th, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

More from Boston Celtics

Noah Vonleh has been a projected Top 10 pick for most of the year, and positive measurements and results during the combine have made him one of the biggest names surrounding June’s draft. Vonleh isn’t expected to jump into the top 3, but few see him available as late as pick number nine. The Boston Celtics will likely have Vonleh and Kentucky’s Julius Randle at the top of their boards, with Marcus Smart also in consideration, but the Utah Jazz’s number 5 selection will have a big impact on who Boston chooses when the time comes.

Vonleh is one of the most athletic players in the draft and could fit well into a run and gun type system the Celtics may opt for with Rajon Rondo expected to be returning to the team healthy and at 100 percent. Vonleh will likely remain in the post primarily, and may even fit into a center role with his abnormally large wingspan of 7’4″.
