Last offseason, the Detroit Pistons made a number of moves. They traded for Brandon Jennings and signed Josh Smith to a huge contract. Plus, they added to their coaching staff by bringing in Rasheed Wallace as an assistant coach.

More from Detroit Pistons

Adding all of those guys didn’t exactly pan out, as the Pistons failed to make the playoffs, despite playing in the abysmal Eastern Conference. So once again, the Pistons have began their offseason by making moves.

First they added Stan Van Gundy as head coach and president–a move that was highly regarded. Van Gundy is a brilliant basketball mind and lead the Magic to the NBA Finals just a few years ago. His services had been sought by many a team in the past few years but until this time he had always declined.

Today they made another change to their coaching staff, but this one wasn’t so great. In fact, it’s a huge mistake. Rasheed Wallace is no longer an assistant coach.

Why Van Gundy would get rid of Sheed is mind-boggling. If the Pistons fall apart again next year, think back to this day when Van Gundy got rid of Sheed and you will remember where it all began. Because as Sheed would say, ball don’t lie. The Pistons were #blessed to have Sheed on the staff, and there can be no doubt that he will be missed.
