Patrick Kane made the game winning shot on Friday night for the Chicago Blackhawks to force a Game 7 against the Los Angeles Kings. According to Tracy Myers of CSN Chicago, the Blackhawks are having a “new year”.

More from Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks have always been a great team, there’s no doubt about that, but this year is one for the books.

With the two teams tied 3-3 towards the end of the third period, Kane knew something needed to be done or the Kings would take the Western Conference. He capitalized on a chance around the blue line, skated the puck toward the net, took the shot, and managed to miss all the bodies in front of the net with less than four minutes left in the game.

Blackhawks captain, Jonathan Toews raved about Kane’s shot and the way he stays calm on the ice to force such plays:

"“It’s amazing how he turns it on in these big games. I think a lot of guys, maybe, are making sure they don’t make mistakes with the puck and getting rid of the puck in certain areas. But he’s as calm as ever with it, even if it’s late in the period and the ice is a little rough. He just keeps that puck flat and has his head up. He makes some amazing plays. So for him to come up with those two plays, on the tying goal and the winning goal, not much you can say. It’s pretty amazing.”"

Kane is incredibly modest when asked to talk about his success in such vital moments

"“I don’t know, you try to take it upon yourself to try and step up in big situations,” Kane said. “But we have a lot of guys that do that. I think with our team and the amount of great players that are on it, it seems like everyone has their time to step up and have the spotlight and be in that moment. There’s been numerous guys that have done it. When it’s your turn, it’s always fun to contribute.”"

If Chicago can proceed and win Game 7 to head to the Stanley Cup Finals, the word dynasty may indeed be on people’s lips.
