If Forbes magazine valued the Los Angeles Clippers at $575 million dollars and they sold the team for $2 billion, how would that affect other sports franchises’ value around the world. The Dallas Cowboys are the NFL’s most valuable franchise, amongst the five most valuable franchises in the world according to Forbes at $2.3 billion.

So if the trend with the Clippers continued, what would the Cowboys value be? $5 billion? If their sale-price quadrupled like the Clippers could they sell for $9 billion?

That has to make some Cowboys fans who’ve hoped for owner Jerry Jones to sell the franchise feel less confident about potentially seeing the day. That is a lot of cash and certainly restricts the number of potential buyers capable of affording that kind of price tag. Still, it wouldn’t matter according to Jones’ son Stephen.

“All I can tell you is it doesn’t matter what’s the number, Jerry’s not selling,” Stephen said Friday on 1310 The Ticket [KTCK-AM], via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “Only he can make that decision. It’s kind of fruitless to even discuss it.”

“Obviously, these sports franchises are tremendous content, obviously a get-away for our culture, for our society,” Stephen added. “People love to escape their stress and everyday pressures of work by watching sports, whether it’s football, basketball, baseball, hockey, any sport, watching their kids play sports. People enjoy it. I think people are drawn to it.

“There’s only a finite group of teams that are out there. Obviously, that one being in LA makes it even more special. When you see the Dodgers go for what they go for, I’m not totally floored, but it’s obviously a big number.”
