The Oklahoma City Thunder are going down hard against the San Antonio Spurs and their season looks like it will be over before the NBA Finals can begin. It’s been an interesting season for the Thunder but it’s going to end as yet another disappointing season for Oklahoma City and that’s just too bad.

The fall of the Thunder from one of the top promising teams in the NBA to a team that falls short of the NBA Finals was personified in this play in which Kevin Durant fell hard after stepping on Kawhi Leonard’s foot.

That play so perfectly captures how there’s always seemingly something in the way of the Thunder on their championship trajectory as it’s either themselves, someone else or a combination of both that get in the way.

It has been said that the Kevin Durant-Russell Westbrook duo is going to end up being less like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and more like Karl Malone and John Stockton as they could never get over the hump and something always seemed to get in their way and stop them short of a title.

Durant and the Thunder may eventually win a title but it’s been a frustrating run for them so far that hasn’t seemed to get any easier with time or experience. Durant falling may not be a defining moment in this series, but it’s a picture that speaks extremely loudly about just how much further the Thunder have to go before they’re true contenders.
