With news of Daniel Nava’s flight to Cleveland surfacing on Monday morning, it appears highly evident that Mike Carp is going to be placed on the disabled list. That just adds to another in a list of injuries sustained by Red Sox players this year. Will Middlebrooks has a fractured finger, Mike Napoli has a dislocated finger, Shane Victorino has a strained hamstring (again), and now Mike Carp is headed to the DL with an impact-related injury.

More from Boston Red Sox

Ian Browne of MLB.com writes that Carp will likely land on the 15-day DL with Daniel Nava being called up from Triple-A to take his place. Carp has been diagnosed with a fractured foot, an injury he suffered after being hit by a pitch from David Hale of the Braves on Tuesday in Atlanta. Carp has tried to continue playing through the injury, but a CT scan was taken before Sunday’s game revealing the fracture.

So far in 2014, Carp has not impressed, hitting to the tune of .214/.317/.286 slash in 33 games. Nava has actually been worse this season in 22 games for the Red Sox, but at this point it’s about getting healthy bodies up to the big league club. Manager John Farrell did not indicate whether Carp would be out for the minimum 15-days, only saying that “he’ll be out for a period of time,” but this kind of injury doesn’t seem to lend itself to a quick recovery.

Names like Garin Cecchini, Brock Holt, and Alex Hassan have already made their Major League debuts far ahead of their intended schedule. Mike Napoli is due to return on Sunday, but until then, the Red Sox will have to stay afloat during this seven game winning streak until their regular players arrive.
