After dealing Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets last season, the Celtics assured themsevles of future cap space and also acquired assets, including multiple draft picks that they can use to either rebuild their roster through the draft or perhaps use them in a trade.
Most of the speculation surrounding the Celtics involved Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love. Love, who can become a free agent after the 2014-2015 season, reportedly won’t be signing an extension with the Timberwolves and the Celtics could be a major player for him should the Timberwolves decide they have to trade him.
Love only added fuel to the fire by visiting Boston over the weekend and attending Sunday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, which the Red Sox won 4-0. Love was caught speaking with Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo at the game.
Later on Sunday, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who played for the Minnesota Twins before joining the Red Sox, took to twitter to offer Love advice on leaving Minnesota for Boston.
Ortiz may not be the only local sports star recruiting Love.
According to Baxter Holmes of The Boston Globe, Love was also chatting with New England Patriots’ star tight end Rob Gronkowski while Ben Volin, also of The Boston Globe, notes that Gronkowski wasn’t the only Patriots’ player Love was hanging out with this weekend.
Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season.
