There is an absolutely tragic story coming out of Brooklyn this week, the six-year old cousin of Chicago Bulls power forward Taj Gibson was brutally stabbed to death in an elevator. A 7-year-old girl was also stabbed and seriously wounded in a seemingly random attack by a lunatic with a butcher knife.

More from Chicago Bulls

The two kids were “hacked and stabbed multiple times” according to the report in the New York Daily News.

“They were just coming outside to get some ice cream and ices,” said Inez Rodriguez, president of a tenants association. “This is the worst thing that I’ve ever seen in this neighborhood.”

Resident Kevin Velez, 41, was there and saw the body of Gibson’s cousin, Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, being taken out of the building.

“He was lifeless, just lifeless. I can’t get the image out of my head,” Velez said. “There was blood all over the front door. This is horrendous. The police need to catch this animal.”

There seems to be no intent behind the attacks and they were just random in nature. It makes you wonder what kind of person targets to kids under the age of 8, and animal might be too kind of a label.

The worst part might be that person who attacked the two children fled the scene and doesn’t appear to have been caught. The weapon was recovered at the scene though, and hopefully they can use that evidence to track down the person responsible and bring him to justice.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at FanSided go out to Gibson and his family.
