Bruce Irvin viewed the 2014 season as his make or break year. Or at least, he saw that as the perception from the outside. Now he’ll have to wait until training camp to prove the make-or-breakers wrong.

  • ESPN.com reports that Bruce Irvin had hip surgery on Monday and will miss all OTAs and minicamps in hopes of returning in time for training camp. To go with the announcement, they also embedded a few tweets of Irvin’s, one of which is seen below.

No wonder Bruce fits in up there in Seattle once more. The guy seems to have convinced himself that everyone views his season as ‘make or break’, but really will it make a difference? The Seattle front seven is so deep and dynamic that Irvin, a first round pick, might find himself on the outside looking in when more cap crunching efforts take place next year and beyond. Russell Wilson isn’t going to pay himself, after all.

All of that is water under the bridge for now though. Irvin wants to play and help the Hawks defend their Super Bowl, and by all accounts this hip surgery appears that it will help him do that, even if he has to miss the next couple months of light practices to get there.
