The Stanley Cup Finals will drop the puck in less than 48 hours, but the fate of one player hoping to be part of the festivities will be known in less time then that as the New York Rangers will learn just how long Daniel Carcillo will be out and if he’ll have to serve his full 10-game suspension or not.

More from New York Rangers

Carcillo was suspended thanks to his shoving of a linesman in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals and since that series didn’t go a full seven games, the remainder of Carcillo’s suspension puts him out of the Stanley Cup Finals altogether.

According to John Shannon from Sportsnet, the Rangers will hear official word today on whether or not Daniel Carcillo will be available for them in the Stanley Cup this year or not.

The Rangers not having Carcillo for most of their series against the Montreal Canadiens ended up not being as big a blow as some might have thought it would be. But with the Los Angeles Kings coming to town to kick off what should be an entertaining Stanley Cup Finals, New York is going to want to be on the top if it’s game and that means doing so without one of their top players.

Carcillo not playing a factor at all in the series win over the Habs is encouraging in that New York knows they can get it done with the pieces that are available. They may end up needing him but they’ve gotten far enough in the most crucial part of their season without him, which seems to suggest New York will be fine.
