The contract talks between quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers that had been tabled in April, are now reportedly underway once again, according to a story via NFL.com.

The 49ers had put any negotiations with Kaepernick on hold while he was under a police investigation for an incident at a Miami Hotel.

San Francisco had additional salary cap room open up as of June 1, and getting an deal signed with their starting quarterback seems to be a priority for spending some of that money. It would appear that these reported negotiations are a sign that the team is no longer concerned about the investigation, of which no charges were ever filed against Kaepernick.

Back in April, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the negotiations between Kaepernick and the 49ers were not going well. According to Rapoport, Kaepernick will be looking for a deal that will pay him $18-20 million per season.

The Niners are certainly going to expect a lot more out of Kaepernick this season, regardless of how the contract negotiations wind up. The team has made three straight NFC Championship game appearances, with one resulting in a Super Bowl appearance in which they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

After a breakout year taking over mid-season for former quarterback Alex Smith in 2012, Kapernick struggled at times in 2013. Although he put up some impressive stats, Kaepernick didn’t seem to play with the same aggressive confidence that he had during the previous season

San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh has openly lobbied for Kaepernick to be paid well by the team.
