Built vs. Bought. Shots have been fired early in the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

As if this rivalry needed any more fuel added to the fire, the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat battle had another jug of kerosene dumped on it this week, as Clear Channel took out a local billboard in the area in support of the dynasty the San Antonio Spurs have created.

“Built vs. Bought” read the billboard, in reference to the Spurs four championships, won in help primarily to their homegrown, drafted talents, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. With young star Kawhi Leonard in the fold, the Spurs self-built ways look to continue, as their veterans just don’t seem to age.

The Miami Heat, however, rose to prominence after the 2010 signings of superstars LeBron James and Chris Bosh, who were recruited in an effort to create a dynasty alongside hometown favorite Dwayne Wade. The three did just that, reaching four consecutive NBA Finals.

The Heat’s clever signings didn’t stop there, however, as the team managed to supplement its stars with aging veterans and apparent busts, who were undervalued by other teams in the league. As a result, Miami was able to land the likes of Ray Allen, Shane Battier, Chris Andersen, Michael Beasley, Greg Oden, and in recent years Juwan Howard, Eddy Curry, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Mike Bibby, and Mike Miller.

The NBA Finals begin this Thursday evening.
