The entire NBA season has come down to this week’s NBA Finals. The hard work, close games, highlight reel plays, training and practices, sore knees and elbows, and fighting through adversity has all led up to this final series.

More from Miami Heat

The Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs will face off in the NBA Finals for the second year in a row to battle it out in order to determine the 2014 NBA champions.

Before tonight’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals, let’s take a trip back to the 2013 NBA Finals. The Miami Heat, coming off an extremely tough 7 game series in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers, took on the well rested San Antonio Spurs, who had swept the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals.

Ultimately the Finals series became an instant classic after jaw dropping plays, near impossible comebacks, and unbelievable team basketball all around.

In Game 6, all hope seemed to be lost for the defending champion Miami Heat until Ray Allen nailed a miraculous three to tie the game with only five seconds remaining. In overtime, Chris Bosh blocked a Danny Green three in the corner to seal the improbable win in one of the greatest games in NBA history.

The demoralized Spurs, who were mere seconds away from capturing another NBA title, could not match the Heat’s intensity in Game 7, and ultimately lost another close and exciting game.

The rematch of last year’s Finals is now set, and both teams have quite the encore to perform. The Heat will look for the three-peat, while the Spurs look for revenge.
