The Houston Rockets are looking to make some changes this offseason that will ensure that they don’t get bounced in the first round of the playoffs for another straight year. But the team doesn’t have a ton of space in the salary cap to play with which is causing some to wonder where the money is going to come from.

Houston might not be able to grab a top free agent even if they have the cap space to do so, but that’s clearly not going to scare them off of trying.

As pointed out by the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets remain confident that they’ll be able to trade both Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik this offseason to create cap space to pursue top free agents.

"According to an individual familiar with the Rockets’ plans, they are confident they would be able to move Lin and Asik’s contracts because unlike their failed efforts to trade Asik last season, they would be looking to clear cap room, rather than bring back rotation players with similar contracts ."

It’s a lot easier said than done to trade both Asik and Lin but the Rockets seem to be determined to do so. Asik was almost traded to the Boston Celtics this season but the deal fell through thanks to the Rockets high demands. Those demands will have to be drastically lowered if the Rockets want to move either Asik or Lin but it sounds like they’re committed to getting those contracts off the books.
