That’s why Jackson made a run at Steve Kerr, who he coached with the Chicago Bulls, but Kerr decided to take the Golden State Warriors’ job instead. The Warriors have a much better roster and obviously Kerr valued talent over his friendship with Jackson.
Once that move was made, Jackson turned his attention to another former player of his, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Derek Fisher, who played for Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, Fisher and the Knicks are moving towards an agreement.

Fisher obviously has not been an NBA coach or a coach at any level, but is a very well respected player. He also has served as president of the NBA Players’ Association.
