Daily Show does hilarious video on college football unionization (Video)
The Daily Show is well known for their comedic satire. Jon Stewart is at it again with the Daily Show’s latest video on college football unionization. Some highlights of the video include Northwestern’s Kain Coulter holding a straight face while the interviewer jokingly rips apart his case for why him and other athletes should be allowed to unionize. “Employees don’t live in dorms” he proudly proclaims and then celebrates his victory.

On the other side of the debate Republican strategist Dee Dee Benkie represents the counter argument. They introduce her by having the interviewer try to slam the cup she is holding out of her hand while he yells “FUMBLE! FUMBLE!”. Benkie appears to be more so anti-union however rather than anti-player stipends. She admits at the end of her interview that scholarships need to be beefed up considering how much money the NCAA makes.
No matter what side of the college football unionization debate someone may stand on this issue. The video is certainly going to get out some laughs. However, it’s hard to ignore that the current system relating to college football player’s and scholarships doesn’t work anymore. The system is constantly being argued over and fought against. Something needs to change. Whether that be player unionization, player payment, or beefier scholarships is up to the NCAA, the college’s and perhaps even the players themselves should a union between players form.
