NBA Draft 2014: Chane Behanan to work out for Rockets, Mavericks, Bulls
By Brad Rowland
The road through college basketball has been a difficult one for former Louisville forward Chane Behanan, but from the moment that he spurned Colorado State in order to declare for the 2014 NBA Draft, Behanan became a professional basketball player. He will continue that pursuit with a trio of workouts this week, as he visits with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls.
The 21-year-old Behanan went back and forth between the bright and dark sides while at Louisville, with multiple marijuana issues throughout his tenure there before he was dismissed from the program. As a result of that and the fact that the 6-foot-7 forward hasn’t played competitive basketball in quite some time, Behanan’s stock has dropped considerably.
At the moment, ESPN’s Chad Ford projects Chane Behanan as the 98th overall prospect in this year’s draft class, and as the 28th-rated power forward, there is little to no guarantee that he will be drafted at all. Because of his relative lack of height for the power forward spot, teams are less likely to take a flier on a guy with real character concerns, and he will need to greatly impress during his string of workouts in the coming days and weeks.
It would be an impressive story of redemption if Chane Behanan could parlay his workouts into an NBA Draft selection, but nothing is guaranteed at this stage.
