Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig has left the game tonight with a hip injury.  Preliminary reports suggest that it is a mild muscle strain.  He will be further evaluated tomorrow.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

Puig exited the game against the San Deigo Padres in the middle of the eighth inning, and was replaced by Scott Van Slyke in right field. Puig is hitting .324 with 11 home runs, 44 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 68 games this season.

A similar ailment caused Puig to leave a game earlier this season.  He was held out the next day as a precautionary measure. It is likely that the same thing will happen this time around. We can expect Scott Van Slyke to get the starts in right field if Puig is forced to miss any time.

Puig exited the game with the Dodgers leading San Diego 5-3.  His spot was due up in ninth inning. Van Slyke legged out an infield single in his stead.

The Dodgers would go on to lose the game 6-5 after Dodger closer Kenley Jansen imploded in the ninth inning.   Alexi Amarista led off the inning with a single, then pinch hitter Carlos Quentin doubled him in.

Just how slow is Quentin these days?  Pitcher Andrew Cashner came in and pinch ran for him!

A double by Will Venable brought home Cashner to tie the game.  Venable was then sacrificed to third, and came home on a sac fly to right by Everth Cabrera.  You have to wonder, could Yasiel Puig have thrown out Venbable had he not left the game?
