Just a few days ago, it looked like the Golden State Warriors may have been close to completing a deal for Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love.

More from Golden State Warriors

The Warriors, who have been very active over the last few seasons (they added former Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets’ swingman Andre Iguodala through free agency last season and pulled off a deal that sent guard Monta Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks for center Andrew Bogut in 2012).

The Timberwolves were reportedly asking for power forward David Lee, guard Klay Thompson and another assets – a future first round pick, forward Harrison Barnes or forward Draymond Green. However, the Timberwolves have been very reluctant to deal Thompson, which is why no deal has gotten done.

According to Baxter Holmes of The Boston Globe, the potential trade of Love to the Warriors is dead because the Warriors refuse to give up Thompson. Holmes believes the Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets are now the “main players” to acquire Love.

Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season while shooting 45.7% from the field, 37.6% from three and 82.1% from the charity stripe.
