The NBA Draft is just around the corner and that means teams that want to acquire draft picks are getting into the 11th hour of being able to do so. There’s a deadline to submit trades on Thursday before the draft as after that deadline we can only have draft-and-trade situations like we normally see.

This puts pressure on teams that want to control the picks they want rather than try to barter with teams who own that pick, and the New York Knicks are desperately trying to acquire a first round pick before Thursday’s deadline to do so.

One way they may look to get a first rounder is to trade Iman Shumpert, something they almost reportedly did back in February at the trade deadline but never did. ESPN.com’s Marc Stein is reporting that trade discussions between the Knicks and Thunder have been taking place but Zach Lowe is suggesting that the Miami Heat could be in play as well.

The Heat need a point guard and will be looking for one on the open market this summer. Ramon Sessions and Eric Bledsoe have both been mentioned as possibilities for the Heat but if they could trade their first round pick for Shumpert, it’s hard to see them not wanting to do that.

There’s nothing saying the Heat are indeed going to be moving towards trading for Shumpert, but it’s a splashy move they need and might be the right move to convince LeBron James to stay.
