Miami Heat superstar LeBron James has opted out of his contract and will enter free agency. It wasn’t an unexpected move entirely, even if James wants to stay with the Heat opting out and signing a new deal would allow the Heat to clear cap space to sign more players, potentially Carmelo Anthony.

Of course it is expected that the rest of the Big Three, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, would also opt out. At this moment they have not opted out, but have until the June 30 deadline.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that they, along with Udonis Haslem, had not opted out adding that Haslem’s role and decision to opt out is vital to the Heat if they’re going to try to add another superstar like Anthony.

Now to assume the Big Three become the Big Four is still a far-fetched idea at the moment. The four stars would need to take considerable paycuts to make that happen, and they might not be willing to slash their salaries that much.

Still, the first domino has fallen and James might just be swayed away from the Heat.
