Fan ran onto field during USA’s game against Germany (Photo)

The United States and Germany closed out Group G play during the Group stage of the World Cup on Thursday. Both teams were looking to lock in their spot in the round of 16, a draw would’ve advanced them both and a loss would’ve put either in position to be eliminated.

The United States held Germany to a scoreless first half, despite being out possessed and seemingly not in control. In the second half Thomas Müller gave Germany the lead, one they’d hold onto for the rest of the game to notch a 1-0 win against the Americans. Portugal defeated Ghana 2-1 but it wasn’t enough to pass the Americans in the goal differential tie-breaker.

Also during that second half, a fan apparently ran out onto the field during play. It wasn’t on camera and went unmentioned on ESPN broadcats to the best of my recollection.

Photographer Tim Groothuis caught the pitch invader on camera though.
