The Miami Heat are the second team of the night to be making a draft selection that will not be going to them. After trading their pick in a proposed trade with the Charlotte Hornets that lands them Shabazz Napier, the Miami Heat were picking for not themselves but the Hornets and will thusly be sending former North Carolina Tar Heels star P.J. Hairston away in that trade.

  • Of course, the trade isn’t official yet and if the league vetoes it then the Heat are still ending up with a solid player but the Hornets getting Hairston in his college state is something that will be huge for everyone.

The Hornets need offense and Hairston will be able to run alongside Kemba Walker in the backcourt for Charlotte in way that makes them a much better team moving forward. It’s a pick that really would have benefited either team as the HEat need shooting too, but getting Napier int he trade is something that will help further convince LeBron James that he needs to stay in South Beach and that’s the very purpose of the swap.

Some thought that Hairston might slip into the second round, as the New York Knicks were holding their breath at No. 34 overall but the Hornets will be getting him once the trade with the Heat is approved and both teams are coming out way ahead in the end.
