The NBA Draft is right around the corner which means that we’re going to have to hear all about the missed deals that almost happened with players who are now changing uniforms. Earlier on Thursday the Orlando Magic traded guard Arron Afflalo to the Denver Nuggets which signals possible changes to the draft strategies of both teams.

More from Detroit Pistons

It also brings up the Detroit Pistons as well, even if they had nothing to do with the trade that went down. The reason Detroit is coming up is that they almost prevents Thursday’s deal from happening by making it back in the middle of the season when they reportedly tried to acquire Afflalo from the Magic.

To make things even more interesting, the Pistons attempted to trade for Afflalo the week that they ended up firing head coach Maurice Cheeks.

It’s hard to say what the acquisition of Afflalo would have done for the Pistons but it’s hard to see him helping them out anymore than the players they had did. Detroit adding Afflalo now would have been interesting but at the end of the day it appears that Stan Van Gundy wants to win with the players that he has and adding Afflalo might have just been a last ditch effort by the previous regime in Detroit to save their jobs.
