During a 2014 season that has otherwise been characterized by disappointment and uncertainty, Chase Utley delivered a career milestone on Sunday afternoon. As the Philadelphia Phillies took on the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon, Utley shot a line drive back up the middle for a single and the 1,500th hit of his big league career.

In typical Utley fashion, the veteran second baseman got his ultra-quick hands to a pitch on the inner half of the plate and hit it hard, straight back up the middle in this case. This adds another accomplishment to a long and successful career with the Phillies for Utley, one that he plans to continue despite persistent trade rumors.
Unfortunately for the Phillies, their recent bid to remain relevant for a longer period of time this season was thwarted by the Braves, who completed a series sweep on Sunday afternoon. With that the Phillies will look to the trade deadline and a possible fire sale, though those efforts will likely involve building a roster around Utley and Jimmy Rollins, both of whom have indicated that they will exercise their no-trade rights and stay in Philadelphia.
