The Los Angeles Dodgers were a disappointing mess in May. There was drama and there was uncertainty. The roster might have even looked like overpaid, mismatched parts. The San Francisco Giants were in a dominant position at the top of the National League West, holding onto a double-digit game lead for days at a time. As recently as three weeks ago, the Giants still had a 9.5 game lead over the Dodgers.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

If the only the season ended in May.

It is now the end of June and the Dodgers have tied the Giants for first place in the division.

The Dodgers took two out of three games at home from the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend. That continued a strong stretch of play that has been keyed by the starting rotation. Clayton Kershaw, in particular, has been untouchable in his last three starts. The last time he surrendered an earned run, the picture in the NL West looked much different.

As for the Giants, their June has turned into an absolute disaster: they are now 10-16 and dealing with a stretch in which they have lost 11 of their last 15 games. As they try to get things back on track they will face the St. Louis Cardinals at home this week and then the San Diego Padres on the road. The Dodgers will now take on the Cleveland Indians at home before hosting the plummeting Colorado Rockies.

Such as these things have been going, things continue to look up for the Dodgers. As for the Giants…we’ll always have April and May.
