Barack Obama has been a busy man the last two days in reaching out to sports stars. First it was U.S. goalkeeper, Tim Howard, who was on the receiving end of a phone call from the leader of the free world and today it was Los Angeles Kings captain, Dustin Brown, who spoke with the biggest sports fan in the White House.

More from Los Angeles Kings

Obama congratulated the Kings captain on their successful march through the Stanley Cup Playoffs that culminated with a win over the New York Rangers in a five-game series that was capped off with a thrilling overtime finish.

En route to the Final, the Kings knocked out Obama’s favorite hockey team, the Chicago Blackhawks, and Brown took a minor jab at the president after Obama said the Final was a good series unless you’re from New York, to which Brown replied, “or Chicago.”

Obama took the subtle jab in stride and congratulated Brown and Conn Smythe winner, Justin Williams, who was not a part of the phone call, and invited the rest of his teammates and coaches to the White House for the customary celebration.

Brown was also commended by the Commander in Chief for his role he played for Team U.S.A. during the Winter Olympics in Sochi this past winter. The end result wasn’t what Brown or hockey fans in the United States had in mind when the NHL took an extended recess in the middle of the season, but the fourth place finish was something to be proud of when you’re representing your country.
