David Price got the win against Detroit Sunday night, allowing 3 runs in 8 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts. A solid performance by Price against a hard-hitting lineup. But did the Rays’ ace have a little help in the form of a foreign substance?

More from MLB

TV viewers noted a strange brownish substance staining Price’s left arm, and screenshots began making their way around Twitter. An explanation for the substance came along after the game…from David Price himself.

Price is known to be pretty active on Twitter so he noticed the semi-controversy and tweeted this:

I’m not sure what “Suave” is, but apparently it’s red hot, so I’m assuming that means he smeared it on his pitching elbow for the heat effect?

As many fans pointed out on Twitter, the substance is on Price’s left arm and that would presumably make it more difficult for him to get the stuff on his left hand. Or maybe that’s all part of Price’s plan. Maybe that’s just what he wants you to think.

Maybe David Price is a sleight-of-hand artist on top of a great pitcher. Maybe he can get that stuff from his left arm to his left hand without you even realizing he’s doing it.

I’m certain Price doesn’t need to cheat, but still, there’s a photo out there showing something suspicious, so now I don’t entirely know what to think. I have questions now.
