Jered Weaver was only able to pitch two innings of his start for the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night before an injury forced him to exit.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, Weaver left early due to tightness in his lower back.

The Angels will now have to wait until Weaver has his back checked out to discover if it is anything serious or if Weaver will miss extended time. If this is a minor injury that only requires Weaver to miss the equivalent of a start or two, it might be that the All-Star break is coming at the perfect time for the Angels.

More from Los Angeles Angels

Through 18 starts this season Weaver has been solid once again: he is 9-6 with a 3.56 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. The Angels have the second-best record in the American League, and their longtime no. 1 starter has once again been in the middle of that success.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Angels may or may not be in the market for a starting pitcher. The nature and severity of Weaver’s injury will certainly weigh on their approach as well.
