With two outs in the ninth inning and the game tied 4-4, Kolten Wong stepped up to the plate and slammed a home run into the right-field stands. The St. Louis Cardinals took their second straight walk-off win against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“This year has been such a roller coaster for me; up and down, up and down,” Wong said. “To finally get this to happen — this is one of the top things that has happened to me in my career. It’s awesome.”

Wong knew that he was either going to hit that pitch or strikeout because of the fact he was swinging at something hard. He admitted that the pitch was what gave him the homer and admitted that had a different pitch been thrown, he probably would have taken the strike.

Wong has also been swinging more aggressive lately after coming off of a disabled list stint. He has played three games since his return and has recorded two home runs. Knowing he can swing without any pain is surely a great comfort when stepping up to bat.

Manager Mike Matheny admits the Cardinals aren’t at the top of league in terms of home runs, however the past two days are great proof that they are still coming along when the club needs them the most.

After winning the first two games of the series, the Cardinals have dropped the Pirates from second to fourth in the National League Central. While doing so, the Cards have climbed to within three games of the first place Milwaukee Brewers.
