MLB All-Star Game: Jeter, top storylines from the first half
Clayton Kershaw’s perfect no-hitter
Twenty-eight up, twenty-seven down
L.A. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw had what some may consider the best pitching performance on the mound on June 20 against the Colorado Rockies. A complete game shutout where he threw 15 strikeouts as L.A. won 8-0.

Oh, and he also didn’t allow any hits or walks. But it wasn’t perfect.
Kershaw’s no-hitter was as close to a perfect game as one can get and if Hanley Ramirez makes the throw to first in the seventh inning, then he would’ve thrown a perfect game. Instead, Kershaw had to settle for becoming the 12th pitcher in L.A. Dodger history (22nd overall if you include Brooklyn) to toss a no-hitter.
The Dodgers have the best record in the National League going into the break at 54-43, a game ahead of San Francisco for first in the NL West. Kershaw has been simply phenomenal on the mound with an 11-2 record, a 1.78 ERA with 126 strikeouts going into the break. He is one of three Dodgers with 10-or-more wins so far this season as well (Grienke with 11, Ryu with 10).
While the Dodgers have done well in the first half, it’s usually the second half and October that catch up with them.
But if Kershaw can keep pitching the way he has been going into the second half, the Dodgers may be a lock for the NL West pennant.
