Chien-Ming Wang signs minor league deal with Chicago White Sox
By Jack Crosby
Chien-Ming Wang is doing whatever it takes to get back to the dominant form in the Major Leagues that he was at a few years ago, and that journey will continue with the Chicago White Sox, as the two parties came to terms on a minor league agreement on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Wang decided to opt out of his minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, and he wasn’t on the market very long before the White Sox came calling.

Wang, once considered one of the best pitchers in the American League when he won 19 games in back-to-back seasons for the new York Yankees back in 2006 and 2007. Since then, however, his career has taken a bit of a drop off. His ERA has plummeted and he’s battled a myriad of injuries.
This season for the Reds’ AAA affiliate, Wang logged 50 strikeouts and 45 walks in 119 innings pitched. His ERA was a pedestrian 3.70.
Currently the White Sox sit 10.5 games back in the AL Central as we get set to start the second half of the season, so unless they can climb back into contention, and Wang can improve mightily, it’s unlikely he’ll be seen in the big leagues this year, barring injury.
