Chivas Guadalajara was hoping to turn things around after a disappointing run last season, as they looked to avoid relegation.

When the final whistle blew, we were left with a 1-1 draw.

It didn’t look good early for Chivas, as Chiapas was on the attack and racking up quality scoring chances seemingly at will. Chiapas seemed close to a breakthrough, but Jose Rodriguez was holding his own in the net.

Finally, in the 34th minute, Chivas got the boost they needed when Fernando Arce found the back of the net by getting the ball by César Lozano off of a beautiful set piece to give Chivas the 1-0 lead in the first half.

It has seemingly been forever since Chivas scored a goal off of a set piece, so the fans at Estadio Omnilife were ecstatic about Arce’s strike.

Despite the first half goal from Chivas, Jaguares had looked like the better side. They were just unable to catch a break and had a goal disallowed from offsides and even nailed the post.

At the start of the second half, Chivas seemed like they were beginning to find their offensive rhythm and they had the Chiapas defense on their heels early.

However, in the 55th minute, Chiapas got a great scoring opportunity after a defensive breakdown from Chivas and brilliant ball movement from Chiapas, but Rodriguez was able to come up with a huge save to keep Franco Arizala’s shot out of the net.

The game was now wide open.

Chiapas had another great opportunity in the 58th minute, but Rodriguez came up big again and Chivas hung on to their one-goal lead.

Chivas had a chance of their own just a few short minutes later, but Lozano bailed out Jaguares with an incredible save. After just getting his finger tips on a rocket of a shot from Chivas, Lozano bounced back to his feet and stretched his arms just enough to get in front of the rebound shot from Omar Bravo.

In the 66th minute, Chiapas finally broke through thanks to the boot of Julio Nava, a product of the Chivas youth system who was subbed in during the 42nd minute, and Jaguares pulled even at one goal a piece.

Momentum started to swing in Chiapas’ favor.

Chivas tried to put some pressure on Jaguares late in the match, but they were unable to score a game-winner as we finished out with a 1-1 tie.
