The Kansas City Chiefs drafted definitely one of the most versatile players in the draft this past May when they selected Oregon all-everything man, De’Anthony Thomas. But after the selection, the question then turned to what exactly they drafted him to be? Was he going to play running back? Or was he going to play wide receiver?

Well, according to Terez Paylor, Thomas recently expressed to him that in anticipation of his upcoming rookie season in the NFL with the Chiefs, he has been spending more time studying the running back position than he has wide receiver.

All signs, as of right now, point to Thomas mainly making his plays out of the backfield.

When he was drafted, the initial thought process was that he would be making the move primarily to wide receiver. The reason was that he could be used in the slot role to throw off the defenses.

But working Thomas out of the backfield in that role that Dexter McCluster used to occupy might have the potential for greater success. With the hands that Thomas possesses, as well as his ability to find the crease and get through it with a burst, running back might be a better move in the end.

For rushing reference alone, in his career at Oregon, Thomas has notched 1,890 yards on the ground with 26 touchdowns.
