In the shocking upset of the year, not one single team claimed former Braves second baseman Dan Uggla on waivers. Not one single team was willing to pay the waiver fee. So, Dan Uggla is now officially a free agent.

More from MLB

His phone is just going to be ringing and ringing from all these teams rushing to sign him. Who wouldn’t want a guy with such lofty numbers? Look at that batting average (.162). Look at that slugging percentage (.231). Look at that dWAR (-0.2).

Uggla clears waivers two days after being outrighted by the Braves, who no longer wished to carry his large salary just for the privilege of having him on their roster. Speculation will now begin about Uggla’s next destination.

Overly-optimistic fans will say, “Sure. Why not take a shot with Uggla. It doesn’t cost you much and maybe he gives you a solid second half. He’s only 34 and he’s had some nice seasons in the past.”

Change of scenery. A change of scenery is all Dan Uggla needs to get his bat going again. Something was wrong in Atlanta, obviously. Something about that Braves atmosphere was messing with Uggla’s head.

Maybe in the American League, he can find his stroke again. He just needs to find the right team. The right manager. The right situation.

Yup. You bet.
